I'd grade it AU-58. At 12.7 mm, the Type 1 gold dollars were the smallest of all US coins. Even smaller than a silver Trime! |

AU-50 but I'm not totally convinced this one is genuine. I don't like the hair detail, denticals on the reverse rim, mushy LIBERTY, and grainy appearance. These coins were heavily counterfeited in the 1950's and 60's in Lebanon.

AU range. I see no huge red flags but these were faked in large numbers. Be VERY careful buying these raw.

I know,that are a lot of counterfeit US gold coins in high quality,I saw some of them,but this one seems for me ok.Of course I can mistake,and if some one see some problems with this coin,please tell me. I appreciate all answers,thank you!I totally agree with grade AU  |

I know nothing about these coins but doesn't the spacing of the characters bother anyone? Or was this how it was back 150 years ago?  |

I have to agree with IndianGoldEagle, unfortunately.
Because of their small size these coins were heavily copied for jewelry purposes, sometimes in gold that was purer than the .900 gold than that from which the authentic coins were made from!
I have a pure gold copy of a South African Sammy Marks gold 'tickey' threepenny piece, which is of about the same size as this coin. My coin is worth it's weight in gold only; the authentic gold 'tickeys' are worth $ thousands each.
They are sometimes referred to as 'jewelry copies'. The rim denticles are much better defined and longer on this coin than the authentic examples shown in
PCGS Photograde.
Oddly enough this coin is BETTER in this regard than on authentic gold dollars! (compare)
For grade, AU58 seems to be about right for this one.

I took it to my LCS and within just minutes the dealer told me it was a counterfeit from the Middle East. He bought it from me for spot(as a favor) and was going to have it melted. Looking back I wish I had kept the coin for education purpose. |
