Hello I am new to this field and I am trying to interest my 5 grand daughters in it. I had (they are gone now) a good source for cheap uncleaned coins and I have a list of dealers but I would like to know if anyone can recommend a dealer on ebay who provides inexpensive coins that my grand kids can clean and learn about - money is a big issue here Thanks in advance Cyrus

. ..Do the kids have expensive cleaning equipment,.,Or a metal Detector (I need to get me one yet). All the dealers I know (ColonilAcres)don't sell coins that need cleaning.,The kids like Ancients? As a side note here teach them a little about paper Money as well as coins.,.Supplies are also one thing You all may need.,.Read some in our Forum here about supplies as well.,.Get the kids to post a few pictures here in future and US all will then give You comments that are good.,

Cyrus, An ebay search with the words "uncleaned Romans" or "crusty Romans" will return a number of possibilities. I recommend also going to the advanced search option at VCoins ( http://www.vcoins.com/en/Search.aspx), then uncheck " US coins" and "World Coins" at the top, so that only "Ancient Coins" remains checked. Then set in a price range...for example, between 1 and 10 USD. You'll get an amazing amount of coins (and coin-related literature) in the results - some quite nice for the price. Of course these will typically be single coins for sale (not lots)...so you and the grandkids won't have the fun of cleaning them. Best wishes.

Uncleaned romans fluctuate wildly in price and quality. the main thing is to be patient and wait for a lot with something interesting in. If you're justs tarting them off, then you'll want to get some desert found coins. These have stronger patinas and are easier to clean. Once they have the gist, you can look for a good British Dug lot, which will contain more interesting things (coins from the middle east generally have anything good filtered out and only Constantinian stuff is left).
There are key things to look for in a good uncleaned lot. The most important of all is to ascertain how much the seller knows about what they have dug up - some will take anything worth more than £1 and sell it seperately, and some will leave £400 stuff amongst the grots. Of course, you would have to expect to pay a bit more for a lot with nice things left in (50p-£1 per - up to £2 per if there is something good on display).
If you send me an email, Ill try to point you out a good lot.

Cyrus, I have got thousands up for grabs and am more than happy to sort you out a little lot cheap. You can have British found or from 'abroad'. Either message me or grab my email address from one of the guys here.
