I am debating getting this coin but, I know nothing about it. It is posted as 200AD-300AD bronze ancient roman coin. If anyone could provide some info, I would appreciate it. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

I can read CON... behind the head? So it can be Constans : http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/constans/t.htmlor a the Constantines or a the Constantinus or Constantinus Gallus http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/i.html#CChoose one and browse with thumbnails At the bottom under the standing person you will find the mintplace Sorry that I have not the time to do the search myself. Acoin in that state as no value (in Europe). It is very worn. Roman coins were made by the millions and finding a rare one is even here very difficult. In my town was an important roman settlement. With a metal detector and a bit of luck you can find such coins. But never was a rare one found. First pic looks like Victoria, holding a palm and wreath. A wing to the right. Like this : http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/...VIII_161.jpgAny corrections are welcome

to the community Though the coin is harshly cleaned and corroded it appears to be of the emperor Constantius II 337-361 AD. If you haven't already bought this coin you shouldn't waste your money. They are very common and could be had in much better condition for very little money.

This is literally worthless, so yeah, dont get it. I sometimes put coins from this period on ebay, but I havent recently because they dont sell well (I may be putting some more up later, but most of them, at the moment, are early empire. I believe I have a couple from this period though, but overpriced). This coin is Constantius II with the scarcer (but still easily found) reverse of SPES REIPVBLICAE (Hope of the Republic) - it shows Constantius II standing left with a spear, holding a globe.

Well I technically wouldn't be paying any money for it. It's on Listia, which is done through credits. You "sell" stuff for credits, then use those credits to get something else. But, I won't go for it since all of you guys say it is in poor condition. I have been collecting coins for a while but, mainly only from 1890-current. So, venturing into the ancient coins is new for me and, I am uneducated about what is what. I am am mainly going into ancient coins for the history aspect like, Spanish coins from 1500-1519 (during the conquest of the Aztec Empire), that kind of stuff.

Anything during a significant time in history. The newest coins I would be interested in is a coin from 1776 minted in P because it's when and where the Marine Corps was founded (me being a Marine, it has historical significance).

Significant times for the romans being the early empire, Constantine I and the very late empire (400-500AD). Constantine I's coinage is plentiful and cheap and you can get coins from interesting romans (usurpers etc) for low prices, if you're patient and wait for the interesting stuff..

If you like a coin with history, one like this should do for you. It was minted by Octavian later known as Augustus in about 43AD to commemorate the Battle of Phillipi. Link to the story is here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Philippi Sorry about the rubbish photos, I am not on my pc so don't have up to date photos, and wildwinds appears to be down.

It would be awesome if I could get a Mark Antony coin. I am pretty sure I have seen them (please correct me if I am wrong). I have liked him since I was a kid and read the play of Julius Caesar. I loved that he went to war with Brutus and Cassius after the assassination. I will be patient though. Echizento: thank you very much! Semper Fi and Ooh-Rah Any other suggestions?

Here is a Marc Anthony from my collection. Not a very good example, better ones are out there but will be expensive.

What is considered expensive for a better example? Lol. Like I've said, I know most prices for 1880-current but, I know nothing about ancient coins. I originally thought coins from BCE & early CE would be unattainable but, I am seeing some for 5-$10

You can have a look on vcoins and search for coins there. They cover a lot of retailers from all over the world. You can see what coins they have and what they are asking. These are retail prices, and some stores have overheads to pay for. If you have a local coin dealer, he may have ancients tucked away. It might be worth talking to them. On ebay you will find many examples, but they come without provenance for the most part. There are a lot of fakes on ebay, and it would be worth posting a photo of the coin here for forum members to give their opinion as to whether the coin is worth bidding on.

No Marc Anthony Legion series on Vcoins at the moment, but what's there are examples of other types that are in the expected price range. A MA legion type in the condition that mine is in would cost around $30.
