I found this 1942-S Lincoln while coin roll hunting earlier this year. It has what appears to be extra metal in the rim at about 10 o'clock, and an impressive crack that originates from this anomaly and right through the bust's neck.

I've had a couple of LCS look at it, and they just shrug their shoulders with indifference, point out that it has been harshly cleaned at some point, and then tell me it isn't worth keeping (without saying what is actually going on with the coin, of course.

I don't know if this qualifies as a Cud or something else. I'm not even sure how to describe the crack. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Appears to be some kind of planchet error but I could be wrong. Did you clean this coin? Looks like it was cleaned.

Jayman,
Thanks! Planchet error -- I hadn't considered that. Would the crack also be the same planchet error, or a separate lamination error?

And no, I didn't clean it... I found it in the roll like this.

Lamination, one which was kinda loose at the rim when struck.
