There are a few RPMs for that year, RPM-004 might line up with your coin. But as John notes, MD is apparent on the nickel. It appears in the lettering on the Reverse, but also looks like there is MD on the Obverse to the profile of the bust most notably along the bridge of the nose.

You may have a couple of things going on with your coin. Let's hear what the experts have to say. Here's a link to a similar looking coin (unfortunately, no response).
