It would seem from what I can find that the "NO" is weakly struck (or effaced?)on many, if not all, of these. Professor Andre's Alpine Choir and by implication the Matrimonial Society were associated with the temperance movement, and this token could've served to admit one to see a performance. Of course, the "payment" for that free entertainment would likely have been to sit through a lecture touting the marital bliss that would result from teetotaling and an appeal to join the society and/or otherwise support the cause.
