Is the 18 doubled and is that a die chip in the loop of the 8?

We need more photos. I can't see exactly how the 1 and 8 are doubled but I do see what looks like doubling on the outside of the 1 at the top. The chip inside the 8 I have never seen anything like that before. Can you get better pictures with whiter lighting? Is there anything else going on with the coin that might help attribute it?

Sorry for the poor pics, hopefully these are better. I only have a 10x loupe and my cell phone to use.

Could that chip in the 8 actually be a chunk of plastic?

Edit to add - It looks like it may be a VAM-20.

I suppose its a possibility but do I really want to poke at it with something? And if I do, what do you suggest I use?

Might as well leave it be. There's enough remaining on the surface of the coin from the plastic in which it was encased to make it a Details coin; why mess with it? If you must, a toothpick won't harm the silver. Then again, it probably won't touch anything you had to hammer off the coin, either.

I'm happy with VAM-20 for it.

If it's plastic an acetone soak should remove it.

Haha the hammer part was fun! I hammered one of the Peace dollars first to make sure it would work.
VAM 20 looks about right. Thanks guys.
