Hi all!

I just found this 1919 P in a roll. The W in WE sits higher and appears to be smaller than the E. The Reverse has no corresponding marks or damage that I can find in that area.

I would value, greatly, your opinions and invite all feedback.

Thank you,

1919-We-Error-Cent?

Not an expert here, but seems this coin has a lot history behind it, maybe a few secrets. To me it has character for sure.

The "W" may have taken a hit some time ago shifting and shortening it up. Or vice versa the "E" was knocked down. Just a guess though. To me the WE in the motto seems to drift closer to the rim on early LWC. The rim, liberty and date seem to have a broadness about them, but think its due to age and circulation.

Hope to here more from the experts. Thanks, Doug.

Interesting piece. Let's establish first, though - this is impossible on a single coin from the Mint. Simply_not_possible. The die would have had to be created that way, with the "W" out of place, and that's not possible unless the working hub was created that way. And the working hub is created by a Master Die, which is itself created directly from the artist's original sculpture....

So, not from the Mint. If, somehow, it *had* happened, chances are others would have turned up since 1919 because, you know, every single one would be that way.

The W is normally a bit higher (to the eye), as is - if you'll note - the R in TRUST. Just not to the extent shown here. I think at greater magnification we'd see evidence of a lucky postmint hit.

My guess is that something happened in the minting process and the W was shifted upward

Closer inspection reveals that the E may have "taken a hit" as suggested. I agree that this coin has some character.

Thank you all for the input!

Here are a couple pictures of the same year coin and area on 3 different coins for comparison to yours.

Looks like there are more out there although I don't think any of mine are 'Exact' matches to yours.

I've seen a few like this. Some not as far off as this one.
I believe it could of been from the die/hub then add some polishing and wear etc. Also the serif on the G of GOD is pretty much gone (COD) from either or grease, polish, Die Deterioration etc.
