Since there are no English markings, I'm having trouble identifying. Anyone? Thanks so much in advance for your help!

Could you post close-up pics of each of the coins and the writing on the box? From what I can see these are commemorative coins about year of the dragon, from the box writing (which I guessed) and seeing as the year on the coin you put on close up is 1989, one of the Chinese "Year of the Dragon" years.

Looks like one of the many many sets made to commemorate the Lunar Year of the Dragon. They are not legal tender, not issued by any of the Chinese mints and not silver, although they may be plated with a few milligrams of silver.

Can you post some pics of the reverse ?

I'm afraid they are indeed legal tender coins. They are from Taiwan, circulating commemorative 10 dollar coins dated Year 89 of the Republic (AD 2000). They're quite small, the same size and composition (cupronickel) as regular 10 dollar coins. All five coins are the same; the top two show the reverse, the bottom three the obverse. NGC database entry. I do not believe this is an "official" set, but a set assembled privately for sale as a Chinese New Year / New Millennium souvenir.

Yes, agree with Sap, the coins were struck as New Millennium souvenir but can also be a legal tender.

The side with denomination 10 dollars shows Republic of China Year 98 (= Y2000), this is the Year of Dargon in Chinese tradition.
