Interesting piece. One would think with that distinct pattern of BRITANNIA , especially the second I and N, it would be an easy attribution. Are we confident it is a Machins Mills and not another Bungtown piece?
I think I may be with Vinnie on this one. The outlined crosses on the British flag on the shield (which set apart the superimposed saltires of St Patrick and St Andrew) are visible on this coin. I don't think the engravers at Machins were ever such sticklers for detail. Big lips do not always equal Machins Mills.
After examining the shield closer p, I concur that this can't be a Machin's coin. Thanks for pointing that out :-) Not as well versed on Machin's as I am with Vermonts :p
