Wouldn't believe it if I didn't see the label! Very neat... hard to tell from the photo provided.. and now I really want to take a trip out to Brandon to see the coin!

Never heard of it before, pretty interesting. Sadly, it's too low of a grade for my collection. I believe it's being sold by a CCF member. CCCS has been certifying a lot of previously unknown Overdate varieties lately, but I do see the tip of the seven in the top right corner of the 8.

Most likely just used an old reverse die from 1873 and carefully punched an 8 over 7. See page 28 of the 2014 Charlton Standard Catalogue CANADIAN COINS Volume 1. Die steel and die preparation was too costly to just discard a good unused die from a previous year (s).

They did the same with the 1858 8 over 5 dime and also the 1870 8 over 7 dime....

No , those are blundered dies with misplaced digits corrected .............. huge difference.

The 1885 20 cent also has somthing like this with a doubled "18" in the date.
