Some of you may have seen this coin posted in the pocket piece thread, but I was wondering what you would grade it? What type of damage does this coin have?

Again sorry for the bird in the obverse image, I'm trying new photo backgrounds.

G-04 Details. Cleaned and corroded. Good idea for a pocket piece.

coin has corrosion that is not repairable. Too many other inexpensive large cents out there that would be more desirable.

Thank you, I thought the same thing! I figured it had lost whatever numismatic value it had and thus was the perfect candidate for a new life as a pocket piece.

That's the point really, hopefully I can wear some of the damage away. But mainly it serves as a teaching tool and just something I enjoy carrying with me. Nobody else was going to save it so I wanted to.

True, but most don't have the story or the mileage behind them!

with both G details and corrosion with high probability of being a metal detector finding.

In hand I think the obverse grades G-4 and the reverse AG-3, although the corrosion makes it hard to distinguish wear from environmental damage.
