Hello, new to the forum and to collecting. I saw a couple MTT at a local shop, and got interested in the history of the coin and started collecting. I've seen the MTT websites and picked up a Hafner book, but I still find myself confused between all of the later 19th to 20th century variations. So I'm trying to ID these two, and would welcome any input. I know one is very worn so it might be tough. Are there definite indicators of recent (post WWII) restrikes that will help me eliminate those when I'm shopping? I am more interested in older ones that have seen the world. Most of the brooches and diadems that I see have the same number of diamonds or pearls...9 and 8...Is there another easy indicator out there? Thanks for any assistance

#1 must have been a necklace, and #2 is quite worn

The first coin is likely to be a type 1 Paris restrike, that is, a H69 specimen. The most prominent feature to me is the saltire looks like too arcs sticking together in opposite direction.

The second coin is hardly to say as it is too much worn. The tail feather formation 1-2-1 or 1-3-1 can't be determined. So I have no idea. Henry

Thanks Henry. It seems like the saltire is a good way to determine the restrike further. I picked this one up recently. Would that circular mark on the left side near the lettering be considered a die crack?

Its a die crack which is most often seen( but not exclusively) on Rome mint coins. The only way to identify rome mint coins is by weight( an uncirculated Rome mint coin will weigh between 28.07 and 28.14 grams) However I suspect the wear on your coin will make such identification impossible.
