hello All,

Ive got this Canadian one cent in my collection. In the krause it says there are no varities on this date. But on internet I've seen alot of differen varity coins of the canadian one cent types. I am no expert in these coins and in varities kinds. But could someone say to me if it is the normal one as in the krause or it could be an different one?

Best regards,
Vincent

The major varieties for this year are Obverse 2, 3 and 4. http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins...nt-1876-1901

Thanks! Tell me what is so strange on obverse 2? I can't see the difference. Just an head is it right? Like every other coin.. It is no Die crack or double D for sure..

The differences are subtle and can be hard to tell on a worn coin. The best indicator is the shape of the tip of the bust and how it abuts against the beads. Other indicators are the shape of the upper lip, the shape of the 'dimple' in the chin, and the line coming down from the corner of the mouth. You need a good loupe/microscope. Obverse 3a is the only one that's easy to tell with the large centre serif in the E and the Closed C in Canada.

That coin is Obv. 2 Broken bottom serif D in DEI.
The die is an O2S not the O2R with the intact N in Regina and intact top serif D in Canada.
Still a sought after coin.

Thank you Both! Just out of curiosity. Do they mention these kind of things to an auction in Canada? Because if you have to do that with every canadian cent it takes alot of pages I guess? Here in the Netherlands they probably just name it One cent 1892 canada. Some time ago I sended some coins to an auction house in Germany. They even didn't mention the overdate on a few coins which I cleary put on the list.
Maybe that is the difference between the united states, canada and europe coins? That here the overdates (besides the very few in the catalog) don't get mention.
