I know grading can be subjective but I am appalled by the over grading of some currency by some sellers. Some bills graded as AU are more like EF. And some EF bills are more like VF. Grading is all over the place. I am wary of buying notes that are not as good as described by sellers. Especially if there is no return policy. Take this listing of a 1937 $2 banknote where it is given an AU, despite having a heavy miidle crease with broken fibres. I would give it no more than EF. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/WOW-1937-BAN...em2c868917caOr like this $10 bill called EF when it it is more like VF. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1954-BANK-OF...em19efef4568Edited by MoneyPenney 07/04/2014 07:06 am

When I buy notes on ebay I always look for UNC and if I can consecutive notes. Having consecutive notes seem to have a better chance of actually being UNC.

It's just the nature of the beast, be it coins, bills, cars or computers. So, it's basically any item being sold. Just do a generic search of "UNC".

Just as you learnt with coins, just go right to certified notes to buy.....BCS, PMG.

Coins and banknotes are all over graded on ebay. My advice would be only buy from sellers you know and trust, sellers that honor a 14 day hassle free return policy, or buy only certified coins and notes.

yes because certified coins are never over graded right ?..Lets be realistic. Even our own firms will over grade many times.... As I have said before if your comfortable with an assigned grade then buy it...If not ask questions , and most of all make sure you are happy with it

I have recently changed my focus to banknotes away from coins. I look for bargins on ebay all the time for good looking Canadian banknotes. I try to view all of the notes with a critical eye and see if the value of the note will exceed my bid. I ask questions to the seller if I feel there are things about it that don't see clear from the pictures. I have gotten some good deals over the years. Yes, people say what they want about notes to attract your attention. But that's all they do, attract my attention and then I make a decision as to whether I want to bid. As always, we have heard it all before buy the item not the grading holder. From what I have heard about the TPG's, is that they spend very little time actually looking at the item, that decisions about grade are made almost immediately. It's a high pressure job from what I have heard and output is what making the shareholders happy.

asynpm is a pioneer in a very generous and inflated system of grading. Speaking of EF and AU, notes that aren't too rare usually are also sold in UNC, so I agree with gbvbsite.
