I've been collecting the proof sets for the past few years in silver every year except 2013. I decided I want to continue collecting the silver set though, so I looked on ebay to get the 2013 silver proof set and noticed how crazy expensive last year and 2012 are getting.

My question is if I should buy the set now, or do you think I should wait in hopes that the price will come back down later on?

2012 is the lowest mintage of any of the modern silver proof sets, followed by the 2013. Thge price will come down eventually as it did for the 1999 set.

The buying/hoarding/flipping frenzy will last for a few years, so the price will come down but not soon.

You might wanna get a subscription with the U.S. Mint to avoid this predicament.

$50 right now for 14 coins. Quarters, half, and dimes struck in 90% silver, not too bad... I think I might get a couple of these :P

@52raymo, the only thing I buy from the usmint are the proof sets and I found that I can get them for about 10 dollars less on ebay from MCM.

after shipping from the mint, I end up paying more buying proof sets or the few commeratives I've purchased from them. dont hold me to $10 though, might have been slightly dramatic haha.

This was a move by the US Mint that caught a number of people by suprise. Not sure why this happened but it did create a desirable proof and silver proof set.
