Nice find... found one a while back and just flipped it and sold it ~$10 or so. Not to be a downer, this variety is neat, but in the opinion of many, proving to be much more common than expected.

A few weeks ago, someone posted a similar coin. At that point, I had never heard about transitional coins. Since then, I've been on the look out for copper '83 LMC, and '88 & '89 LMC with the wrong serif "FG" initials. I have also been setting aside '70 dimes with what I thought was the proof reverse. Here is what I came up with over the last 2-3 weeks. Are these the same as the transitional dime rupster found? Based on the number I'm finding, I am assuming aren't the transitional coins, but doesn't rupster's pic look the same as mine?

Agrippa. After 1970 that reverse became standard reverse until...if memory serves 1979? Would have to check variety vista (thank you Dr James Wiles) this reverse on circulation strikes 1968-1970 are what ya want to find 1971-1980 RDV-002 was normal http://www.varietyvista.com/Rooseve...0Changes.htm

Thanks rupster! All of the dimes in the pic are 1970.

How many rolls did you search to find those? That is a pretty nice haul Agrippa.

Oh, I dunno....$300-$400 in rolls over the last couple of weeks. I seem to find them often, which is why I thought I was looking at the wrong thing, but looking at the links in this thread and my "strike it rich" book, I am definitely finding flames with "two deep grooves". I guess I should start sorting out the better quality ones eh?!?!

I have no clue.. Think this is a relative new thing from the CPG write up..i would like to find a 1969 rdv-002 perhaps the mint just threw there hands in there air due to the massive mintage of dimes? Or maybe these coins had a heavy dump in your area? I dont know..but for the amount of interest this has received from all the major numismatists prhaps you have a gold mine? I just dont know..speculations I assume do TPG's recognize this as a variety? Anyways fun thread neat to see them all!!
