This is kind of an oddball LMC capped die strike. The cap seems to have been indented by a blank planchet at sometime previous to this strike.

Opinions welcome.

Neat looking, is the other side normal?

Not the expert on capped dies. But seems they can form on the die like a stack of bottle caps. One on top of the other, not always in alignment as the stack grows. Thanks, Doug.

Impossible to say for sure what generated the odd topography. The area to the left of the curved line looks to shallow to be a conventional indent. It's often the case that capped die strikes present puzzling textures and topographies.

The indent referred to I believe to have occurred several strikes previous to this one. I'm wondering what the extraneous metal on the right-hand border of the old indent is, if not another dislodged cap such as Halo1st described.

Mike, I think you have seen this next pic previously (one of my coins). I believe you said it was a CDS with a blank planchet causing the indent, upon which I readily concur.

Sorry to be late, Halo1st: the reverse is normal.
