At my local coin shop they have a candy machine that has capsules which contain a few of the following: Buffalo nickels, Wheat Cents, old Jefferson nickels (30's and 40's) V nickels, AG Shield nickels, Silver dimes, Unc. Memorial cents ('59 and early 60's) and Indian Head cents. The capsules are filled with about 4-7 coins each and you get one capsule for 50 cents.

My best finds are a 1914-D Buffalo nickel which I sold for $40, a 2003-S Jefferson nickel Proof, and a 1918-D Buffalo nickel with a restored date.

I've seen one of those in a gas station. I have always loved those and am anxious to see another one.

I feel like the only way that could be profitable for the dealer is if the vast majority of them just have wheaties, LMCs, and Jefferson nickels. If every one had at least one V, Buff, Shield, silver dime, or IHC, I'd buy them out of those.

Never saw one of those. Sure wish there were some around me. Fantastic idea though.

There's a mall near me that has a similar concept in place.
The difference here is that instead of US coinage, the vending machine is set up as a "Coins from Around the World" device. Looked like mainly British coins, Korean and Japanese pieces that I could see.

50 cents a shot...I've been tempted, but I don't collect foreign coinage yet.

That is pretty cool. When my kids ask for quarters for those kind of machines I say no every time. If they asked for 50 cents for a machine full of cool old coins. I'd say yes and would you like another until the machine was empty!! Really cool concept! I wish it was mandatory in all lcs's!

The closest thing to old coins I've seen in a machine was antique looking jewelry. Not even close.... :(

A few years ago there was a piece on TV about someone doing this and trying to go national with it. Don't know what became of them though.Forgot to add that I see claw machines that have coins as prizes too.

This sounds like a dream come true! They should use this concept and apply it to one of those claw machines!!
