Here's the facts...off EBID..2008 W Eagle Reverse of 07 $1 Early Releases MS70..cert #3198461-003(label checked prior to purchase, and was FINE on NGC site)...got in hand today(paid 300 dollars below market/current
ebay sold values, bought for "only" $835)....in hand, first noticed leftover cleaning "crud" on letters...both sides of slab rough, and, some small cutting indents...nothing near like my other fine NGC slabbed coins in collection...now I'm worried...then, under grading lamp...walla...huge, circular polish-hairlines....real coin was taken out(probably sent to pcgs, for a btter final price), and funky, cleaned coin put in....seller is nice, and is refunding asap...
Lessons? Pics online CANNOT show these details, unless a superb photo or 2...price too good to be true? Hmmm..I should have known better...but, figured I'm covered, with paypal at worst, seller not hassling me at best....maybe on high-end coins, ask your seller to send pics of sides of slab, and/or, get in writing they see nothing the matter, and, you have that in writing if something is haywire..if they refuse to accomodate you, move on to a seller that will...so..this NGC slab label good, and cleared the background check..BUT, coin was swapped out..very bad...be smart out there...
