I've been reading a lot lately on the new defect system ebay is implementing for Sellers in August. Currently transactions are eligible to score 7 different defects, however, only 1 will be counted. I don't like the fact, refunding someone, after they return an item is now a defect for the seller. To me it's just good customer service, what ebay wants! I agree on a defect, if the refund is for cancelling a sale do to lack of inventory, however, if the item was glass and accidently broken that's an unneccesary penalty. Or getting a defect if an item not received, sellers cannot control mail loss. What do others think on this new system?

If it has how you described it, it sounds pretty ignorant.

There are definitely parts of the new policy I don't care for. I just got through looking at my projected defect count. I have 1 defect for item not as described. I sold a Fossil watch. It was only marked Fossil on the inside of the back cover which was clearly stated in the listing & I supplied a picture to the buyer. I ended up giving a refund upon return & got positive feedback from the buyer....so how could that be a seller defect?
I have 1 other defect for a low score on item as described. Not sure where that came from. Everything I sell has clear pictures of the item with extra pictures of any possible nick/scratch/damage/whatever. Then I describe the defect & refer to the pictures. If you buy an item from me without knowing exactly what you are getting it's because you didn't look at the pics & read the description.

Who it's going to hurt - and it's about time - are the people who routinely ove rgrade coins, take terrible pictures, etc. - and get a significant # of returns, but because the return is handled quickly without argument (i.e. I know I sold you an over-graded piece of junk) get "positive" feedback.

There will also be a significant amount of legitimate sellers that are hurt due to irresponsible buyers who suffer from buyers remorse and/or impulse buy without checking into the condition of the item as shown/described. If --- when ebay swings too far to the buyers side of "fairness"========= Sellers will tighten up === and may result in higher prices to buyers in general. In the end it all comes out in the wash.

In general I agree 100% In the case of really "horrible" pictures === fair enough to say a little of the shame is on the buyer. I say this will 100% respect for your contributions to CCF

I hope you are correct! Also may slow down the number of bait&switches and "I can't find it" sloppiness that seems to be on the rise.

It going to hurt alot of seller who count on their 20% discount. It's widely discussed on eBays seller forum, that many sellers will lose their 20% discount come August 20. How many sellers here are concerned a out losing their 20% discount? How many sellers here are upset by the new holiday extended return policy for top rated seller. Which is basically if you sell an item in November, they buyer has until jan.31 to return it. This is for those sellers who want to keep their 20% discount. There's plenty of discussion on the ebay seller forum, however it's mute on here about all these changes. Yet I know there are many sellers and even dealers belonging to CCF. I would of thought the spring update and it's changes would of sparked a huge discussion. I'm curious how people on this forum will be impacted, and what are the strategies they will use to meet the new demands? I was really hoping there would be a brain storming session. Any thought, opinions, or observations?

Got a .13% neg number for selling the item somewhere else other than ebay! Which in reality was a withdrawn from sale item!

I think this topic is already apart of ebay.au. We have had it for a few months now! Performance requirements Defect rate indicator 0.12% Below Standard (More than 5.00%) Top Rated (2.00% or less) Items and listings % Count Low detailed seller ratings for item as described 0.00% 0 Opened cases for items not as described 0.00% 0 Returns for items not as described 0.00% 0 Postage and delivery Low detailed seller ratings for postage and handling time 0.00% 0 Opened cases for items not received 0.00% 0 Neutral or negative feedback Neutral or negative feedback from buyers 0.00% 0 Canceled transactions Cancelled transactions (out of stock or sold to someone else) 0.12% 1 Or maybe I have got it wrong?

I had a SNAD case opened against me because the buyer didn't realize they were supposed to open the sticky cardboard in the package. Once I explained how to open it, they found their coin and all was well. That case will count against me simply because it was opened. It doesn't matter if the buyer opened it in error and didn't try to contact me first to see what was up. I even called them ( ebay) on the phone about it, and it doesn't matter why they opened it, simply that they did - even when they closed the case after leaving positive feedback. So my take-away from this is that I'm responsible for holding the buyer's hand and spelling everything out for them, then taking it right on the chin when they misunderstand the slightest thing.

I have now found that the new score system starts here as well. What I am looking at is the way it is going to work from August. But the loosing of 20% comment sound like it is a USA issue! Quote: How many sellers here are concerned a out losing their 20% discount?

Example! I finished listing and relisting for today but 3 sold items have ended up in the unsold section and have been relisted. So now if I did not replace the listings they would of given me neg number that was totally an ebay function mistake! I can not see any other way out unless I change the listings!
