Although it is hard for someone as paranoid as me to send someone with less than 1000 feedback a payment of SEVEN GRRRR, like those 8 people did, I do have one comforting thought... This loser who commited multiple felonies, and took all that money... I wonder if there is a VAM market in the collectible license plate hobby? -EndTheFed

Sad thing is, that just before dropping off, he showed that he could consistently sell high value coins. Could have kept it going as a legitimate business.

Hilarious discussion. Did anyone else catch the "positive" negative feedback? My faith in humanity decreases little by little each day. But for the life of me I can't comprehend spending 5-7 grand on coins on ebay. I don't trust the buyer protection program that much, and I would be very nervous until they arrived safely in the mail. I could never do this sort of thing. I would just go to a brick and mortar to spend that kind of cash.

Reminds me of an old television show called, "That's Incredible!" Yes, excellent detective work. This is the most amazing story I ever heard of, but then again I'm new at this. g0, how did you even stumble across this guy? How can Paypal allow access to money so soon? It's the fox watching the hen house...ebay is getting another sale...and another fee. Hope he has some asbestos underwear, he's going to need it Maybe some sort of news/investigative outlet might be interested in hearing about this.

For the people that got burned they need to band together and go after ebay and PayPal to recover their losses. The thing is, nobody knows who the real perp is, or where he is, right now. There is a paper trail at ebay and Paypal and some good forensic detective work will eventually uncover the whole mess. The problem is getting the proper agency interested in it.

What is ebay's stated justification for not allowing negatives for 8 days on high volume sellers?

edweather, I stumbled upon this crook when I was researching pricing for a 1794 Half Dollar I was interested in buying. I saw a nice looking fine details 1794 Half Dollar sold on ebay for just $1450: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1794-Rare-U...047675.l2557lo and behold, it was tomcassata's. When I saw his feedback rating of 92%, I had to look deeper. As to how he was able to get access to the funds so fast, he is a top rated seller and since buyers can't leave neg's for top rated sellers until 8 days have passed, he had plenty of time to complete his scam. On top of that, ebay is completely incompetent. Do you realize they still have not NARU'd this crook. Seems ebay is the last to learn of this scam.

Looks like in one case he created a BIN for 99 cents for 140 ASEs and then did a side deal for $2,800. That isn't covered by buyer protection!

But to do it as a legitimate business he actually has to have the high value coins to sell. You will notice from the feedback that no one received the coins they bought. The seller almost certainly was selling coins he never had.

He got another neg today. This one for over $6k. This could total out a lot higher after all the dust clears. Can't believe they haven't NARU'd him. Wonder how the "get the item you paid for or get your money back" thingy is going for ebay with this? Oops.

It's funny because I knew this guy was a crook and crack out "artist" 6 months ago... via this thread: https://goccf.com/t/166878And he definitely owned all the coins that he sold, like 90% of them were just cracked out of "Details" slabs. He was a god awful seller because it was so obvious what he was doing, I just don't think people were smart enough to check recent sales on Heritage... he was such a bad crook that it was comical.

This crook just received 2 more negs to day, he's now at 90%. Looks like his scam netted him closer to $100,000. Will be interesting to see how many more people were taken. PS: Good work j-win, he definitely was also a crack-out crook. I imagine he's having a lovely honeymoon.
