I am trying to downsize some of my collection that I can't really enjoy, for instance many of my tubes of extra coins. I have 7 or 8 partially or completely filled tubes of Wheaties that I would like to sell at my LCS and I was wondering what I should ask or expect to get from them? I have tubes of early Wheaties and some of later dates, all of which are circulated. I also know exactly what is in each one. Should I provide the inventory of the tubes to the dealer? If it would help I can also provide it for you all. Thanks for your advice everyone!

Unfortunately most dealers will pay 2 to 4 cents for each coin. Unless you can show them better dates. I know it sucks but that's reality.

See what rolls of wheats are going for on ebay. You could probably get 5 cents each, just make sure you cover yourself for shipping and fees.

Well there is about .02 worth of copper in each and most dealers here in SoCal pay that on the common stuff if you have time I think ebay would net you more in your pocket, but then you have to think is it worth the time.... and if you slap a couple of mercs on the ends of those rolls the skys the limit on the bay, but make sure you let people know you have absolutley no idea whats in them :)

Unfortunately there are enough common wheaties out there to supply collectors for the next millenium. The reason is because they are easily distinguished from LMC and got pulled from circulation. Most nickels of the same age just got used up in circulation because they look the same as regular pre westward issues.

8 rolls is worth $15 or so... just stick them aside and wait until you have 20-30 rolls. Otherwise, you're spending more (fees and shipping) to sell them for what they're worth on ebay than you'd get from a local dealer (3c a coin probably, maybe 2.5 at some places)

Well I don't have an ebay account so I don't plan on selling them there, I just want to stick with my LCS. Thank you though for the advice everyone! Do you think it would help me any to provide an inventory of the rolls to the dealer?

The dealer won't care, they'll get dumped into a bag and sold as a lot at some point, usually at $50 face.

Quote: The dealer won't care, they'll get dumped into a bag and sold as a lot at some point, usually at $50 face. Oh alright, well that will make it easier then. Thank you! I'll pull out any scarcer dates or nice grades and possibly 2x2 them. My collecting budget has dried up to next to nothing so I sadly need to get rid of extra coins.

I know how you feel .... I have a similar bunch of coins .....
I've let a few slip back into circulation in hopes of someone finding and get interested in the hobby!

You can put them up for sale/trade on here and charge for the shipping cost, some members on here are actively buying LWC and some are searching for varieties. There are no fees selling on here and you are helping fellow collectors rather than your local dealers (unless you want to frequent his store and use this opportunity to establish a good relationship). Edit: I just realized that his last respond was back in July of 2014.....
