I have been looking at it trying to narrow down a possible date.

I need some opinions on weather it is Wide or narrow 'AM'.

I'm looking at the 2nd 'T' in STATES to try to determine.

I'm leaning towards wide which would narrow it down to between 83 and 91 ? If not a var.

I think if I can tell that, then I'll look at more design changes to try to narrow it down even further if possible.

What do you think?

Do you think this is the real deal?

I cannot comment on the date, but I would like to add that this isn't any ordinary off center strike; it's an off center, chain strike.

This occurs when a planchet is sitting off center in the striking chamber next to another off center planchet. Since both planchets are partially between the dies, they expand into each other under the pressure of the strike, creating the straight line you see on this coin. Theoretically there should be another chain strike out there that would match up to the one you have here.

So I did ok picking this up for $6.00 U.S. ?

I would still like to try to narrow down the date. Just because it is fun.

Anyone else have any ideas how to do this?

EDIT: Any one have it's 'sister' ?

This is a zincoln correct?, if so that narrows it down. If you could find a DD or die scratch or other marker that is identical to another zincoln than you can find what year.

I picked it up for $6.00 U.S. at the Summer FUN show.

I thought it was worth it.

I like show the edge of the die flows from the center. Not abrupt, but smooth. Nice looking coin.

Thank tou all for your comments.
Question:

Would it be a good idea, being this is a 'zincoln', to treat it with something like Verdi-Care?

Still need to learn how to do the quote thing.

When referring to the wide or closed AM, I say closed (CAM) due to the positioning of the A in ST ATES does not appear centered to me. 93-08 (unless the rare 92 CAM variety) can not narrow it down any further from there.

I maybe wrong, but think thats the way I read it.

Nice error coin regardless of year. Thanks, Doug.

Edit: Missed the verdi-care question, which I'll defer to others as I've yet to try it.
