Does anyone collect these hunks of Mexican silver? The workmanship on them is incredible. Here's a little story about the ones I've got.

My dad had a hardware store 10 miles outside of Centerville, Tx (POP, 799) back in the 60s and 70s. It was about as rural as you could experience as a young boy growing up in the country of east Texas. My oldman owned it for 15 years until he sold out and retired for a 2nd time. My memories are vivid, we'd (my little Bro I were his helpers) have migrant workers come thru during the summer months, always from Mexico. They were nice quiet men who'd eat their lunch on the back porch and take a nap (siesta) under it. They worked over in the next county for Cauble Ranch, home of the famous horse "Cutter Bill" for all you Google fanatics. Those guys had pockets full of silver coins and would buy stuff like nails, gas, minnows, summer sausage, and bread using those big silver "Cinco Pesos". The local merchants considered each one about equal to a dollar. So did my father and even to this day my brother and I each have some left over from those magical days...

'Cept that coin in the centre looks glaringly like a Venticinco Pesos, 25 Pesos from 1968.

Still a big silver coin used to buy 22 shells, a bridle, or fishing lures in the late 60s or 70s.

The memories are worth more than the coins, usually. Priceless. Thank you for sharing that story :)

Thanks for sharing your story, you'll never see them in any magazines or so. Well not that I read so occasional stories like this are cool.
