Picked up this $2.5 Indian from an estate last night. Weights & diameter match the RedBook. Not sure what's going on through the GOD on the reverse. Assumed it was a scratch but after seeing the picture on the computer I took a close look through a loupe & believe it's a planchet flaw. Looking for comments and/or grade opinions.

If you magnify your pic; CNTRL+ a couple of times you can see the "D" in GOD is well formed over/on top of the rouge impression and even looks to be double struck. My guess is that it isn't a flaw in the blank but some type of foreign materiel may have been stuck to the die or the planchet at the time of striking. I'm sure you will find an expert on errors on this forum that will tell you for sure.

I thought about it being a strike through. I'm pretty sure if it was the letters would have had a line across them where they were prevented from touching the planchet by the foreign object. Then again I could be completely wrong & it wouldn't be the first time.

There also appears to be a similar mark under the "T" in the word "STATES"

No expert at all but looks like ms63-64 luster from the pics unless the scratch effects grade. Not sure what those colors are?

Hard to tell from the pics, but I don't like the look of it. Suggest you get it certified.
