So I recently put up a poll regarding a new toned AU Capped Bust quarter for my type set. As this is no small purchase, I asked for forum input, and the vote went to #1. I will be honest, I liked #1 too, but I was worried about AT on that particular coin. Now that I have it in hand, I feel much better about the coin! You made the right call guys! I am not 100% PCGS would slab it without giving it a questionable color, but the coin has natural luster beneath the toning, no cleaning hairlines, polishing or obvious funny business. It has a semi-proof like cameo, especially on the reverse, and the color and luster are also both stronger on the reverse....the reverse is just simply breathtaking in hand It fits in my toned 7070 like a glove!! I love you guys for helping me select this one!! I am sure some here will think this coin is AT, as my pics seem to bring out that look, especially when I hit the angles that enhance the color.

Anyways, here was my old 7070 example, which is very nice and very crusty original.....it was just too dark for the look I have. It graded AU-53, and I made a $200 profit selling it after getting it graded, so no complaints.

Now pics of the new one. From certain angles and lighting, there is no color visible at all, but others bring out its full glory.

Here are the no frills shots, but even here you can see the cameo contrast on the reverse

Now some pics with NATURAL LIGHTING that really emphasize the color

Now pics with direct light source which diminish the color some but bring out the surface luster and texture better:

SO THERE YOU HAVE IT. WHAT WOULD YOU GRADE HER? WOULD SHE HOLDER PROBLEM FREE IN PCGS NGC OR ANACS? I think it would holder in anacs, maybe a 50/50 shot at NGC with questionable toning, and probably only a 10% shot at making problem free in a PCGS holder without questionable toning...just gauging how tough the TPGs are on color these days. At the end of the day though, it really doesn't matter too much, because I LOVE the coin, and is johnny54321 market acceptable..

Some scratches/hairlines on lower reverse. I'd grade AU-55, and I'm a bit unsure on the toning but I'm leaning towards natural. To be honest I don't see the coin as much of an upgrade, I personally would've just kept the original coin. Unless profit was what you were going for, then you did pretty well. Not sure what a TPG would say but that's a really nice fit for a 7070.

Detail wise, the coins are pretty similar, although my new one has slightly stronger details when looking at them side by side. The second one also has slightly better luster. The real upgrade for me is the color. Color is a theme in my 7070. I probably would not have bothered with an upgrade if the other coin was lighter in color, because it is definitely sufficient detail-wise....but the real dark brown just did not fit in with the set. So this is more of a side-ways upgrade, though I think the technical grade of the newer one is one point higher.

Looks AU 50 to me. Eye appeal puts it over the top. I don't know what the TPGs would have to say about it. It is a gorgeous coin.
