I want to have a complete set of silver $1. I know its pricey buy I'm in no rush. I have seen a 1967 heavy cameo.. should I pick it up, or are they more or less desirable ?
thanks

Cameo coins are more desirable than regular coins. The greater the degree of cameo, the rarer and more valuable the coin compared to the same non-Cameo grade. PL coins earn the designation more often the MS coins do. ICCS uses Cameo, Heavy Cameo and Ultra Heavy Cameo comments. Charlton gives prices for both PL65 and PL65 HC for 1967 and earlier coins. For example, the 1967 $1 PL65 is $40 and the PL65 HC is $90. The degree of markup for a Cameo designation varies widely between the years though. For example a 1966 is $30 for PL65 and only $35 for PL65 HC probably because the HCs are more common in that particular year. Personally I collect grade and Cameo as separate attributes. So I may have an MS64 HC and an MS65 in my collection. If I get my hands on an MS65 HC then that would replace both coins but if I got an MS65 C I would still keep the MS64 HC as the higher Cameo designation. This can get expensive though :-)

Just got back a 1967 silver dollar from PCGS - it was a gorgeous specimen strike, but PCGS liked it so much they graded it a PR67 Deep Cameo... it certainly is an eye-catcher that will be in my coin case at the fall Coin Expo....
