Hello all- I have a small U.S. type-set (to compliment my much larger, ever-growing Foreign type-set ), and I was wondering which of these dollars to keep. Option 1: Higher grade (& slightly higher eye appeal, IMHO), higher mintage (1922) Option 2: Lower grade, lower mintage (1926s)

I'd rather have the first one. In a type set I would prefer condition over mintage figures. Plus the second one looks cleaned and has less attractive toning.

Though one in low MS wouldn't cost much (1922). The 1926-S in low MS would be astronomical.

I dont find either of these particularly attractive, if I was doing a type set I would wait a bit more for one I really was drawn to appeared, one thing I have learned is that patience is very important in this hobby, as each piece is unique and sometimes it can take a long time for the right piece to surface. But if you like these ones then absolutely go for it!

For a type set it's all about highest and most attractive grade, rarity is normally not a consideration. I don't like either of these coins that you have posted. You should be able to pick up a nice BU example at little over silver melt - which I think is a heck of a deal.
Best of luck.

I typically go with older dates, just a personal preference. In this case the older date looks a lot nicer, so easy decision for me.

Maybe this is harsh, but I'd probably sell both and buy one in AU-MS condition. You can often find the more common years in high grade for $30 or less. If you need the money and that's what it is about, I'd agree with keeping the nicest looking one.
