2 oz Tim Barnard coin

or

2 oz 200$ for 200$ coin - Towering Forests

Or the 2oz due out next month. It's also $169.95 and mintage of 5k. The theme is WWII and I think the image could be better than either the Barnard or the 200/200.

The only thing the 200/200 has going for it for me is the FV. Since I'm a coin collector, I think the design and mintage of the coin becomes more important and thus I suspect that the coin coming out next month will be the winner (for me).

That said, I bought the Barnard and did not order the 200/200.

Tim Bernard:
+ Cheaper
+ Nice design
+ 5000 mintage
+ First 2oz silver coin done by the RCM
- Artist isn't that well known (at least for me he wasn't when I bought the coin)

$200 for $200:
+ $200 face value, you're guaranteed at least $200 should you sell it
+ First $200 for $200 done by the RCM (firsts usually do good)
+ Interesting design
- Higher mintage (20000)

I would personally go for both but if you had to choose one i'd pick the Tim Bernard.

Just remember that the 1st 50 for 50 coin is still available from the mint, and apparently the next one is coming out next month. I once read that a good marker that a coin will hold value or rise was the magical # 1,000,000. Take the Cost X Mintage = less than 1 mill then good, if its greater than 1 mill, then its not good.

The saving grace to the $200 for $200 is that you could take it back for your initial investment.

I as well bought the Tim Bernard coin and steered away from the new coin. And I will probably get the new one if its a WW2 theme.

I owned Tim Barnard coin. I like it but I find it too busy on a 2oz coin. I will buy the $200 for $200 coin because I do like the design and I find it much less busy than the Tim Barnard coin. But then again, it's just an illustration so will have to see the coin in hand

Prefer the "Tim Barnard" coin.
But bought the new one as well.
What I actually see, that the new "200for200" it designed as "simple" version of "Barnard". The art is less symbolic and simplified.
So I did like the theme, so bought both. For the second - also the face value is an advantage.

In opposite to this - the new coming 2oz coin (in August release) probably also nicely designed, and contains commemorative message.
But again, I think, that RCM started to overuse this 2oz format too frequently. I would buy the "WWII Victory" related 2oz (if will be issued), but not every coin, that they decided to make commemorative and sell for $169.

DragonMaster, If I liked the Barnard design, I would buy both coins..

However, only the $200 coin appeals to me and with that face value, it's a win win proposition (despite the usual naysayers).
