Can you make out the date? I can't.
It could just as easily be a heavily worn 1917 Type 1 without the date.

This was a real gutsy buy but, there are diagnostics that tell the difference. There was a post that showed this. Let see if I can find it.

1917 just screams at you as you see the pic for the first time. Somebody got an expensive lesson.

Ouch, this actually made me cringe. REALLY incredible investigating moe.
I think I'll stick to coins I can still make the date or at least the last two numbers out on.

At least there is a return policy. Hopefully the buyer checks the coin immediately. The distinct beads at the top of the head was the first thing I saw.

Now advertising a 1917 as a 1916 is an obvious fraud. I guess ebay doesn't care, and the buyer is just plain dumb.

It technically isn't fraud if the seller claims stupidity.

Thanks, I knew something had to be wrong, the 1916's cost alot more than that.

This is one of the ways I feel I've learned something on this website. I've been collecting since the early 80's and never really knew the difference in a 1916 vs a 1917 until I saw this same info that Moe posted in an earlier thread. The other day I was looking through some no date SLQ's at my local coin shop and saw a T1, which I easily diagnosed as a 1917. It's amazing the depth of knowledge here...

The seller has been on ebay since 1998 and has seven thousand Feedbacks from coin sales. It's difficult for me to imagine such a seller not knowing the coin, but possible I guess.

Ignorance or not, ebay policy says you have to refund seller if item not as described. 1917 is not as described.

At a coin show last weekend a dealer had an Album of Standing Liberty quarters complete for sale. All were in a minimum of AU. I was afraid to even ask the price.
