My friend went through one of the Federal Reserve bags and this is what he found.

Can ya'll tell me all about it and if it is worth anything? So I can pass it on to him what to do about/with it.

Thank ya'll in advance.

Beckie

It appears to be an error that we call a "strike through" error. If something gets between the planchet and the dies, the coin is struck through, whatever the foreign material is.

It can be a number of things causing a strike through error.

The most common type and the type yours appears to be is called a " Struck Through Grease" error. believe it or not, a lump of greasy material that gets between a die and a planchet will cause the details on the coin to be weak, mushy or missing. As I mentioned, it is fairly common. In this case since a larger portion of the coin is effected, it would be worth a little bit to a collector. I would put it in the $1.00 to $3.00 range.

Have Fun,
Bill

Struck through grease, and enough as it appears to warrant some premium value - a few dollars. It's not an RPM, though. that's Machine Doubling.

To put the "struck thru grease" thought in perspective, lets do a bit of Physics. As we know, liquids don't compress, so if there is pressure on one side, then there has to be displacement on the other side, to a more, or lessor degree. That is why we don't see the letters, or numbers, when this condition exists. Just thought I would clarify some of the mystery, about it.

However, like I constantly say, try a coin show. Error coins are becoming very popular and their values are going up substantially. At a coin show last weekend I noticed a few newer dealers also with more error coins than usual. If your in the Illinois area, there are 3 coin shows a month. Check your area and go to one with your error coins for an estimated value.
