I just purchased this error and was curious as to what denomination the planchet was intended for? Thanks for looking.

I'm not familiar with Egyptian coinage, so I don't know the denominations and their planchet sizes or compositions, but it could have been struck on an orphan planchet.

This is one of many thousands of Egyptian errors coming to market recently. There are some seriously cool pieces that can be found for bargain prices.

Ya I see that, got this from Fred Weinberg on ebay, just can not justify the prices for the U.S. versions of the wrong planchets yet but this one was had for $17.

The coin is a guinea (pound) dated 1429AH (2008 AD. The coin is normally bimetallic with a 94% steel, 2% nickel and 4% copper (as plating) centre section.
My guess is that you have the centre section and it was struck without the outer ring and off centre as the inner ring should only have all the pharaoh and none of the lotus flowers. It is also a mint cancelled error as can be seen at the 7 o'clock position on the pharaohs side by an Arabic letter. I've seen a number of various Egyptian coins with similar cancellations so I presume that many are sold out the side door or are diverted from scrap metal dealers.
Still a nice error for $17.
Edit, just noticed it isn't copper coated so if it is 25 mm and 4.5g then it is struck on a blank meant for the 25 piastre (quarter of a pound).

I believe this planchet was intended to be struck with the Egypt 10 Piastres KM# 990 1429 (2008), what do you think?

These are from a group of recent sales from an Egypt paper exonumia dealer selling these constantly on ebay who has obtained cancelled dies and cancelled dies and are striking these intentional errors. I am surprised someone of your status has not figured this story out yet? ... nothing wrong ... kool errors ... I own about (10) myself of other various errors types ... they are addicting ... seek Mike Diamond for a full story ... yes he own some also ... so does Fred <VVBG>.
