Hey everyone! This is my first time posting on the UK coin forum and I need some help in figuring out the toning on this coin. So I have had this 1920 Great Britain penny in my collection for quite some time now and I was wondering what may have caused its toning to appear as seen in the photos below? Judging by the hole at the top of the coin, this coin was used as a pendent for a necklace at some point.

Also, I have seen similar listings on ebay for this coin and it appears that they have toning similar to my coin

Thanks for the help!

Those coins look yellow because of their natural toning.

Your coin is yellow because it has been awfully mistreated. If a coin is holed it's also more likely to be polished, plated, tooled, etc. - likely, somebody wanted to make their necklace look a little less commonplace.
