Posted this picture in the toned coins thread but would like to ask a question about using it in my Ike set. This is a brown holder proof and has a rainbow effect around the perimeter. I kinda like it but I don't think it would "match up" with the rest of the coins....should it be cleaned or left alone?

Don't clean it, the coin will be ruined. If you don't think it would fit in your set, don't put it in your set at all. It's a beautiful toner and it would be a shame if it got cleaned.

If you dont like it then sell it and buy another . I can think of many people who would love to have a good toner like that in there collection.I certainly would! :) its a lovely coin. You could make some money even.

Good choice! The 74-S proof is well known for producing rim rainbows like this. Yours is a perfect example. You can't see it n my photo, but the 74-S in my recently completed CP 71-76 set also has this toning, but not to this degree.

Does anyone else see how Ike looks mad on the left and happy in the pic on the right? Odd.

Darth I am sure glad to hear this....I was afraid I had a dud or something. The back matches the front too. fromms2244 You are correct, it looks like that to me as well now that you call attention to it but I assure you, it's the same coin. flash vs. no flash? AlbumAccumulator Thanks a lot, I value all your opinions. Tis in the album now. (along with that little piece of lint that I'll remove when I find the "blue Ike" that goes next door)

The worst thing that you could do to that Ike is to clean it. Cleaning is a big no-no, and it should never be done on a toned proof Ike, not to mention a *gorgeous* one. That toning looks brilliant, and I am sure jbuck will come along sometime and drool at it and scream "DON'T EVER EVER CLEAN IT!!"

Would it ruin the coin? Nope. A quick dip would do nothing but make it clear again.
Having said that, would I do it to this coin? NO! Usually when they get milky it is unattractive. But when it goes rainbow like this one, it looks great. Very handsome coin.

with much of the above... That's one pretty coin! If you don't like it the way it is, I'll gladly take it off your hands!
