It's not certified and the seller is holding it on the coin face. Looks like there's a major rim ding at 8 o'clock and a smaller one at 10 o'clock, some rust in front of the neck too, as far as I know they didn't circulate and whoever held it should hold it more carefully if it's real. Only heads side was posted, and the seller said to contact by phone only if you are serious about buying. This can't be the real thing, right? Stole the pic from kaskus.co.id, should I just paste the link here? Edit: I'll try again... can everyone see it now? Edited by Altaira 07/21/2014 12:10 pm

Goloid dollars are just one among the many super-rare US coins being faked in China. They turn up in street markets from Beijing to San Fransisco and everywhere in between, where you can buy them for a couple dollars each.

I'm going with FAKE. It would graded / authenticated by TPG if it was real.

If it were real, it'd be a steal (depending on the price he's asking). However, there are just some coins that **need** to be graded and slabbed if you were to buy them (inheriting one from your great-grandparents...well, you can decide for yourself at that point what you want to do), but buying slabbed uber-rare coins is just smart. Protects you, the buyer, and gives massively increased liquidity to the item should you ever need to sell.

However, there are now fake coins in fake slabs. So one needs to buy from a reliable source.

He didn't put a price for his individual coins, so I don't know if it's sold in a lot or individually. He mentioned to contact him by phone "for serious buyer only", no other details were given. Sounds a bit shady. This is the page I got the pic from, it's in Indonesian: http://www.kaskus.co.id/thread/50d2...sangat-baik/He doesn't even treat most of his other coins well.

Quote: Slim and none, and Slim left town. Hard to tell definitively from the photos, but it really looks suspect.

Fake for sure. I believe I have seen another some time ago on CCF.
