I came up with this idea for a thread, but don't know about participation. I know when I pick up coins from shows, auctions or online, they often come in a 2x2 with handwriting or printing that looks familiar and are often attributable to a certain dealer or, I suppose, in some cases, collector. I thought it would be cool to have a thread where we could post some 2x2s and see if anyone recognized the style on the item and can attribute it to someone. The obvious example would be Bob Armstrong and I believe Sean Isaac has been mentioned too. Anyone else - show us some examples or post some that you think should be able to be attributed if you still have the 2x2.

I see these often on ebay, and realize the seller is showing the initial cost of the coin if it is the smae 2X2 it was in when acquired.

I usually see my flips in a bunch of dealer cases at shows.... and even some coin shops...

Do we get a pic or do I have to click the link and purchase something?

Here's a couple that look familiar, but I can't place. I got them on ebay recently. Anyone recognize the style of 2x2?

I recognize that flip. Those Nova Scotia Trade dollars are from a collector, not a dealer...

Quote: Do we get a pic or do I have to click the link and purchase something? Here is one, date at upper right, grade at upper left, varieties written below the date, planchet flaws or errors or cameo comments below the grade - always in a black sharpie. Price written in red marker. Before I started doing my own shows, I used to do a lot of sorting and grading for a few coin dealers - so my writing is on several coin dealers inventory as well, from Edmonton to Toronto to Moncton. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/RARE-Canadia...291099034896

Interesting thread. As a parallel, British coin collectors used to have a habit of writing details of their coins on little rounds of paper we call 'tickets'. There's a whole article in the British Numismatic Journal on how to identify which collectors or dealers wrote a particular ticket. So if anyone has one and is interested in the provenance of their coin it might help. Not sure if provenance is of much importance outside Britain. But maybe that's what's needed here? A collection of attributable flips illustrated with the name of the dealer or collector? A link to the BNJ article (R. J. Eaglen et al 'Coin Tickets in the British Hammered Series' ) in case anyone is interested can be found here: http://www.britnumsoc.org/publicati...J/2001.shtmlT

So that's where they come from! Thank you! I have several of those 2x2's and always wondered who had the cool writing.
