Hi there all!
I was hoping someone could help me identify this penny my son found in his collection. It almost looks like something was inserted through the coin when it was struck and comes through on both sides. At first glance I thought someone hammered something into it, but when I looked closer it appears to be lumps of the same metal the coin was made from. I keep looking for pictures that look similar, but I can't seem to identify it and I'm very much a novice! Thanks for any help you can give!
Josie

Thanks for your reply and the welcome! I just started getting into this hobby thanks to my 9-year-old son who has a nice little collection started- its fascinating :)
That's what I thought too when I saw it- what confused me is that it looks like it protrudes on both sides of it- like one side isn't indented while the other protrudes, they both protrude like something is in the middle of the coin. I'm still guessing its probably post mint, but thought I would throw it out there just in case my untrained eye missed something :)
