..saw a NEGATIVE tonight, and, it said Forgery, PCGS, which led me to write others in error field, and, this is huge.....Fred Weinberg is on this, as is PCGS, NGC, and others, statements to come out soon.....cert#'s looked legit, when ran through system, so, this looks like counterfeit "errors" from China, in fake slabs, with fake labels...DO NOT BUY on ebay until this is resolved...MORE Tommorow..
Pic is one of 8 coins I bought.

Now this is scary..legit pcgs label, with a counterfeit inside...so, have to assume a fake label....someone REALLY knew what they were doing here...found completed error sales...looked at the coin...made a decent similar forgery, and, slapped it in with a new, fake label...Whoa nelly...

Here's another questionable purchase..SBA on a 5c planchet...seller stalled mailout, and said wanted to have it slabbed first by either pcgs or ngc..probably just to stall...

Well ilikeikes, welcome to the world of counterfiet slabs. The Chinese have been making fake coins for ages, and fake errors almost as long. They got into making fake slabs back in 2007, and in almost every case the fake slab uses the information from a GENUINE slab so the serial number certification link comes back seemingly showing the fake as genuine. That is why NGC stated adding photographs of every coin they graded to the certification linkage about 5 years ago. So you could match the coin in the photo to the coin in hand. (Problem is I don't think the photos are good enough.) PCGS started adding the photos about two to three years ago. Another problem is that only about 20% of the coins out there in slabs have photos on the verification site.

Where do the Chinese get their slab label information? Usually from the Heritage auction archives. They can look up any coin they want and see multiple examples in both PCGS and NGC slabs with all the label information they need.

As for not buying on ebay until this gets resolved, it's not going to get resolved anytime soon. As long as the Chinese government isn't going to crack down on counterfeiting (A major industry in China), and we aren't able to crackdown on the counterfeits being shipped in, and the fact that ebay now has deliberately crippled their own counterfeit reporting measures, we ae going to see more and more fake coins and slabs showing up on ebay and eventually in dealers cases at coin shows.

Almost takes away the reason of buying 'slab'd' coins.

xshift posted this warning a week ago https://goccf.com/t/182413

Of course, with something as serious as this, it is best to have too many warnings than not enough.

Thanks Condor..(I guess!)A error expert said Coin World article to come out within 72 hours...welcome, indeed...ME, and, how many others?
I'll get my funds back, thanks to protection. Cases opened...most likely, he will not respond, and, auto-refund...
Lesson here...COMPLETE loss of trust with slabbing now...100% loss...how these guys copied the NGC holographic label aspect angle is UNREAL...total PRO's...and, to mimic a repro. of a coin from a prior sale..now, that does take talent...I'll give these guys credit..THEIR GOOD...again, thank God a buyer left his neg. feedback and red flag...funny, I had bought that coin, and, asked to cancel, as I had just attended a coin club meeting, and, an expert there told me, warned me about some fakes made and sold similar to the flipover...the next guy bought it, and, yes...bogus...
I called NGC(7 of my 8 fakes are NGC), and, the lady knew NOTHING..NO help whatsoever...I told her to have a supervisor call me...my thinking was..don't THEY want to inspect these fakes, and, basically, confiscate them from the market? I don't want to mail them back to the crook..he could lie, and say "never arrived", even though express mail/tracking/insurance would prove otherwise, and, I'm sunk...NOT mailing anywhere until the dust settles...

This has been known for quite some time now. From what it sounds they're not from China either.

The slabs are real! The grading companies didnt look close enough at these errors as they should have. Its terrible. ebay doesn't seem to be doing anything about it either.

"You will receive the money Monday .I sent proof to PAYPAL for the refund"
I also asked for the same proof of Money Order for 1,409 he said he mailed out express yesterday, that he sent to Paypal...a scan, or pic, and, location, phone number to see if valid...whatddya say no response on that?
I believe this is a stalling tactic..if bogus receipt, , that's a felony crime, I believe.
