When I was a new collector I purchased a Dansco #7113 album for my Jefferson nickels and never gave it another thought and now have it filled through 2014 and have now only a couple of holes to fill. This is where I have come to a realization finally that all is not well with the album. (Some may say that I don't have a problem but I feel that I do) So there lies the problem.

I can do the following:

1: Put the 7113 to rest and purchase the new Dansco albums and start all over and be on a new quest.

or

2: Strip the coins from the 7113 and insert them in the new albums and just fill in the missing San Francisco coins.

Of the two options I kind of prefer #1. All the coins in the old album were found through either roll searching or picks from my pocket. So I've worked hard to get this album where it is today.

I hate moving a collection from one album to another. I did that with my Roosevelts when I again realized that I didn't have and San Francisco slots.

So I think it will be very interesting to see if I can find the older generation of Jefferson's through roll searching again. Picking up the current generation through pocket finds and roll searching shouldn't pose to much of a problem other than getting a suitable coin.

My whole problem is that I now have to purchase two new albums and find space for storage.

I'm in the same boat as I still have the 2013 and the 2014 (once I get it) in the mint packaging since I ran out of space in 2012. I might wait to see what happens with the nickel composition debate and decide then.

Starting a second set sounds like a fun idea.

AlbumAccumulator I think the question about coin composition is a rather simple one. I just looked to my penny collection, there was no new album issued for the zinc coins nor was there any asterisk (*) on the date slots. Possibly because every one knew and knows about the change. I have looked at my albums in while at the '81 date so I don't recollect if the album slots for '81 has notations for copper and zinc.

From what I've read there are 3 possible outcomes to the composition study.
1. No change.
2. Composition change, possibly copper coated zinc, same as the cent. The will also cause the color of the coin to change.
3. Elimination of the denomination.

If there are no changes, I will probably keep the set going. If the "Nickel" is no longer made with any nickel, I might consider the series completed and no longer add the current year's coins. If the denomination is eliminated, well that is it.

Sorry wasn't trying to take your thread off topic, just giving my 2 cents on my plans.

Either way the problem becomes easy: no change to collecting habits or we all add nickel hoarding to our pastime.

Hoarding nickles can get to be both expensive and a weighty proposition. A box of nickles weighs 22 pounds. So a hundred boxes weight a ton and costs $10,000 dollars.

I have come to the realization earlier that most people don't get a lot of nickles in change. So for a collector roll searching for an album is actually a viable option for filling up an album. Once they go away you may have a problem.

As each of my albums filled up, with no more room for additional pages, I opted to continue each series in a binder with blank cent, nickel, and dime pages.
