Here is a 1979 SBA $1 broadstrike error for your viewing pleasure. It was originally found by my father in the 1980s at a bank. The teller was unloading a bag of SBAs into the roller because my father had requested some rolls. He overheard her saying something about a "defective coin" and his ears perked up. He asked her what she was talking about and she dropped this beauty in front of him. He purchased it for face value He did not know what it was at the time, being more of a casual collector than a student of numismatics, but he knew that he really had something in his "defective coin" as the teller so eloquently put it.

He tried describing it to me a couple years ago but I had no idea what he was talking about. He finally remembered to show it to me and my eyes lit up when I saw that big honkin' broadstrike. I looked up a value in the error section of the RedBook and it listed at $100. I looked at Heritage Archives and they have sold very few examples but it seemed to confirm the $100+ value. It doesn't really matter though since it won't be leaving my possession- my father informed me that it is on "permanent loan" to me

Great coin,
a real nice example of a broad struck coin, an example like that is a good learning tool for those who don't know what a broadstrike is.

Nice that you got it from your father, thanks for posting it.
