Hey guys I'm VERY interested in buying my first GOLD COIN!! from the US mint on aug 5th when they release the 50th anniversary Kennedy gold coin. I seen the waiting room today for the clad set today, and I ordered two sets. I'm just curious if any of you veterans have any tips to ensure I am able to buy one of these awesome gold coins!
I obviously plan on being at my computer the minute the clock hits noon and waiting in line, have my account set up for quick ordering. Any other tips you guys might let me in on?
PS. I'm SO EXCITED

I would like to get one, and hopefully the Mint will keep the price within reason.

AMEN to that... I'm not sure what to expect exactly. But keeping my hopes up for 1200$ or lower, but ready to see 1300$.
I talked to my LCS today about having them send it to PCGS for a special label. While it seems like an easy idea, I also fear what if my PF70 gets switched for their PF69? haha. I don't know them all that well.

The press release says "Pricing will be in accordance with the United States Mint pricing schedule for gold coins."

Schedule says that based on recent gold prices ($1300-ish), 1 oz coins are $1660 and 1/2 ounce are $845, So my guess is you are right there at about the midpoint of those two numbers for this 3/4 ounce coin. I predict no lower than $1250. But it's a scale based on a moving average of gold prices.

All of the advice listed above is really sound. One caveat: gold is like Lay's potato chips: you just can't have one, and it's really, really easy to get bitten by the gold bug... Like this:

If spot gold stays right where it is the cost will be $1240

If it goes back to $1300 the cost will be $1277.50

Hahaha love the lays potato reference!
I wanted the MLB HoF one but wasnt able. Not interested in paying a few hundred dollars more on eBay(although it was tempting!)
I would like my gold collection to look something like yours, unfortunately for me coins isn't the only thing I like to spend lots of money on lol.
1240$ is do-able tho.

Considering they are minting these based on the number ordered and there is no mintage limit, you should have no problem getting one of these coins.

Don't worry about being in the waiting room right at the beginning. The gold Kennedy, like the rest of the special sets, will be minted to demand. Just wait until later in the day when traffic dies down. Kudos to the US Mint for thinking of collectors first and foremost and for not creating a "manufactured" limited edition. My hope is that no one will be able to make a profit on the secondary market. Let this hobby remain a hobby. I also have to say that the pricing for the special labels by NGC and PCGS is insane. Shame on them.
