My credit union really never has half-dollars. Been checking often. Where else can I try? Do most of you just keep hitting banks until you find them, or what?

Yup, that's what you've got to do. My credit union doesn't have rolls, they have bags of loose halves in the vault they can get out for you if you want.

Today I went to see a friend at a bank who is a teller and she had a roll of halves so I bought it since she wanted to get rid of it. So just look around and you'll find them.

Most major banks should be able to supply these to you whether you are a customer or not.

Yes, or get multiple accounts. I had up to seven, I'm slowly canceling them though, do to greedy bank fees.

I just called a bunch of branches until I found one that keeps them stocked... Although I've had better luck with customer returned halves (not usually rolls) and that requires stopping at banks and lots of striking out.

Keep looking around at different banks until one of them has rolls, you might have to make an account there too.

As the others have stated, ask at the banks. If you're going to make a bank run for halves, call ahead first. Otherwise, stop off at them while you're out doing other errands.

the other day I went to 4 banks that had no halves, next random bank I never checked before had 450$ in loose halves. Was only able to buy 280$ worth but going monday to buy the rest. I just hope the part where I dont have an accoutn with them doesn't get brought up. I do have 2 cute kids with me eveyrtime to help that (maybe). If you look long enough youll find, luckily I live in a big city (indianapolis) and there are banks every mile or so. the gas does take a toll on me though.

Half Dollars seem to be in short supply at the banks in my area.
Only option it seems is for the bank to order them.

I am glad to see that I am not the only one obsessed with searching Kennedy halves.

I got stuck searching banks when I spied 7 dirty looking half dollar coins in a tellers tray. Asked if I could have them. Her reply was sure, I think they may be silver. That they were. All 1964's.

I have been going to every bank I can and asking for halves. Last big amount was $420.00 at one time that yeilding nothing that I was looking for. That would be 40% and 90% of which I have found $39.00 in face value 40% and with today's score from 4 rolls from a local bank, $3.00 face of 90%. Of those I have found 1 Franklin and 1 Walking Liberty. After reading some of the threads here, I should be looking a little more closer.

Don't get discouraged, tkbslc. Addictions can eat you up if you let them though.

Yep! My dump bank charges $7/month unless you have a minimum balance of $500. Needless to say I'm looking for another bank with a coin counter machine in it. What a hassle!

The banks keep upping the ante, I went to direct deposit with one, to avoid fees. They raised the minimum monthly deposit from $250 to $500 without notice, fees are $13 per month now.

Sorry about the off-topic greedy banks rant.
