Coop,
(Cause I figured you'd look back at this post) what is your opinion of the layers on my 8 from my Edvard Munch the "scream" post? Is that Die wear? It's really layered with an even odder top to it. It has an effect like something melting. Curious. Not a double die or quadruple die? Just kidding 😊 I assume Machine Doubling with die wear, but why are the other characters not affected the same? I mean they are with layering but the 8 stands out alone. What do you think? Is it a one of a kind.?
BTW, I'm labeling my coins as: the scream, scare face, back side of the moon, etc...it'll be confusing when I eventually sell them off.

Coop,
Another question, Are there double dies that don't exhibit the crease or separation?
Your response earlier [ "Note the difference between Machine Doubling and hub doubling. The hub doubling is enlarged/widened/taller. Machine Doubling reduces the size of the devices." ]...it made me think of something I recalled seeing and a coin I recently posted. The 1969 S was used in an example by J.T. Stanton...the PDF paper was to help collectors identify differences DD and MDing. Here is his photo of GOD on the 69 S:

Without the creases it looks very similar to a coin I posted, just recently, of a strange GOD...looking at the two, and if you can ignor the creases, they are very similar.

Note on your example the overall size looks altered? There was a slight amount of grease in the die when this coin was struck making the devices look wider and the angled bottom edge of the devices show machine damage on that area. If you look closer, you might even see metal striation on this lower edge. This happens when the die move making a lined area where this happens.

But your coin's die was normal, but with MD and grease it made the coin look different.

The 8 is also machine damage during the strike.

(Don't know for sure if these images are from the same coin, but it is best to use one coin per thread to avoid confusion and the thread title of the coin would make it easier to search.)
