This is strictly for my own understanding, so if you could comment why each is what you are determining it to be. Both images appear to me to be Machine Doubling, they look similar to me other than the orientation of the offset number: north south: east west. I don't see the cookie cutter effect but instead a shelf in each. Opinion...again for educational purposes. Thx. AMB

Thank you for your replies. It is difficult for me to look at both these coins and one is NGC certified as a "strong double die"... It is in fact their example of the coin on their site of varieties. The other is mine from a prior post. ...comments?

The top looks like is a 1909P-1DO-001 would need to see whole coin.. as that's how you can tell on that coin the difference ....note that this is one the only coins besides maybe 1935P-1DO-001 that looks like that and is not Strike Doubling. Which I assume is why you picked it... but like the Strike Doubled which are very popular on the 1969-s, it will show flat doubling in varying locations, directions and strengths on the coin will look very simular.. These areas of doubling may be in similar or even the same locations as the genuine Doubled Die But they do not show or have the well-rounded, overlapping, raised secondary images you see on the Doubled Die. btw Stike Doubling is same as "mechanical doubling," " Machine Doubling damage," "shelf doubling," Etc.. the bottom like notice how "mushy" the doubling numbers are in appearance this is either a very late stage die with MD or Die Deterioration...but either way not a DDO

OcalaFlorida you are amazing!!! First, thanks for chiming in and your expertise. You are correct. I should post the pics of the "liberty", it too is not exactly clear to me. I'll do that.

Far from amazing I am still newbie only 5 months collecting almost 6. I would of said MD also.. but I have 1909P-1DO-001 its my first coin in my almost date complete error and variety album. I also assume John1 and most others would of said DDO if you showed more then the first two numbers of 1909....because it could of just as easily have been a 1969 with MD

I am not as familiar with the LWC DDO / DDR and in all honesty would have toss both of the 09's shown on CC's site if I found them roll searching ,001 looks flat and shelf like to me. John1

John1, I think we are on the same page, I'd said MDD to both even after looking at the Liberty. Nice to not feel alone in this matter. I'll just keep throwing posts up and see what I learn. Just broke into 3 more 68 and 69 rolls...hope I'm not annoying anyone with too many posts. 😬
