I guess this is the right forum for this. If not, please move it where appropriate.

Anyway, to start at the beginning, I first heard about the site "www.fastcoin.com" from a topic here on CCF. A couple users pointed out it was run by well-established and highly respected dealer Joel Rettew, so I decided to give it a look, and was pleased to find they had some quality inventory at reasonable prices (namely a very nice selection of capped bust halves). I ended up purchasing 2 raw VF Capped Bust half dollars (1826 and 1831), and a PCGS MS-63 1900-P Morgan dollar.

After about a week, I received a package that contained 3 coins. Only 2 were ones that I had ordered. Both the 1826 CBH and 1900P Morgan were exactly the coins I ordered and I was pleased with both of them. The third coin was indeed a 1831 CBH, but it was clearly not the one I had paid for, being several grades lower than the one I had purchased.

Being understandably confused about this, I went back to their site to try and find out what might have gone wrong. I soon discovered that I had received the coin listed directly next in their catalogue to the one I had actually purchased. In addition to this, the one I had received was being sold for $100, as opposed to the $135 I had paid.

Now I can understand how little mistakes like that can happen, so I wasn't too upset. I contacted the website explaining what had happened, and received a prompt reply acknowledging their error and that they would send me a return label for the erroneously sent coin as soon as possible, after the return of which I would be sent the proper coin.

One week after that, I still hadn't received the return label they said that they'd send me. I received another e-mail from them asking if I had received it yet, and if not, that they would send another. I replied that I had not yet received their return label, and I have not heard back from them since. That was 2 weeks ago. I sent another e-mail last Friday morning inquiring what the hold-up might be, but like before, still no reply.

I went back to their site a few days ago to discover it has been completely reformatted, and the inventory completely overhauled; everything was changed. Most discomforting though, was that when I tried to log in, it said that my e-mail was not in their database; my account (and presumably my order info as well) has simply disappeared from their website! I'll give them the benefit of a doubt that this might have been due to complications from the site overhaul, though.

So I'm at a loss for what to do now. I'd still like, if at all possible, to get the coin I paid for, or a refund if that cannot be done. What are my options?

Is there a way to contact them by phone?

It seems like you "should" have gotten the first return label quickly, but that's where things fell apart.

I don't know much about CBHs, but the one you bought looks a lot more than $35 better than the one you got. Is it possible they had the one you bought priced wrong and are trying to wiggle out of the deal?

How did you pay? If nothing else you should be able to dispute it through Paypal or a credit card and get your money back that way and return the coin.

Yes, they have a phone number, which is probably what I will do next. (though I really didn't want to because I get so nervous on the phone and have trouble explaining things)

I'm not sure I'd want to go this route except as a last resort. The total charge to my debit card was just over $300 for the whole order. I don't know if there's a way I could just get the payment for that one coin reversed. It's something I'd have to talk with my bank about.

I'd also say call them ASAP. I too prefer email but when it is getting this deep and problematic it needs to be addressed over-the-phone.

It sounds like your timing is just bad as they are updating their site and having issues - should obviously not wipe out their sales history and your acct info.

I had similar problems with a site - they eventually straightened it up but it took a while.

Good Luck!

Good news! I messaged the main site e-mail address and turns out the complications were in fact due to their website reconstruction (their sales e-mail address had been down, which is why I didn't receive a reply at first). They e-mailed me the return label, and everything seems to be on the right track now!
