Hello. In doing some garage cleaning, I came across an envelope my late uncle from Sault Ste. Marie containing a 1962 Canadian coin set of 6. It's under a plastic film in a alligator pattern embossed cardboard holder. I'll try my best to post pics later with my iPhone. They look to be in perfect condition and shiny with some brown and bluish patina, but honestly, I can't tell whether the mirrorlike reflection is from the coin itself or the plastic film (I suspect the latter). Would I devalue the set if I carefully cut the holder apart and placed them in one of those clear hard plastic holders? Thanks.

I would leave them in pliofilm & envelope.,.Sell them that way.,.Look in Charltons coin catalogue for a price to shoot at ataining.,.People also talk about Melt Value of Silver.,.Selling them in USA should bring more than in Canada..

If the coins are in good condition they shouldn't be sold for melt.. but it has been my experience that in the U.S. few people want 80% which is what our coinage is..

I personally have had better success selling Cdn silver here ... while U.S. silver is well received in both countries as it's 90%.

I say keep the coins intact in the holder... the fact they're intact in the orginal holder may derive a slight premium itself..

Base value is 1.1oz ASW. Catalogue value (Charlton 2014 Vol 2) is $45. Mintage is 200,950. Finish is Proof-Like. Yes, cutting it apart would devalue the set. Unless you also get it TPG'd which would only be worthwhile if they were high grade examples.
