Howdy and good day to all,
This past week I became the owner of a 1878-CC Morgan, I have been wanting a Carson City for some time and when I saw this one in a timed auction well I just had to drop a bid and what do you know the next morning with my email came a note telling me that I was now the proud owner of the coin..
Now when I placed the bid I had no reason to think that I would get it but I did..When I received it in the mail and got to looking it over there were several thing I noticed about the coin..One the reverse the feathers on the top arrows were parallel to the others, well later on after some research and reading ,found out that at first a lot of the dies for the coin were made this way and later on changed
Also noticed that on the obverse the third star under the word UNUM*** the point at what I would call the 7 O-clock position was nubed off or shorter than the others, would this be a mint error or just a messed up coin or just the way this coin was stamped..I have looked around over the Net and found other 1878-CC that have the same nubbed off point on the third star, well guys what'cha think, thanks..If I could I would post a picture..PS where has the spell check gone? I don't see it O-well...

Maybe you could post a link to the auction. It would be beneficial for folks to see the coin to figure out what die pairing it is. 1878 cc is all about the length of the center arrow shaft and the mint mark position. http://www.vamworld.com/1878-CC+VAMs

And yes, spel chek is histary.

Not sure. I'm at work at the moment and have limited access. I'll try when I get home & complete my domestic chores.

Welcome to the club. I only found one recent auction for an 1878 CC that closed on 7/4. It did not include the lot number, however.
