If you could get pictures of the coins we could determine if it's a good deal.

Do the math on this half roll (25 coins) of early dated Mercury dimes ....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/25-Teens-Tw...em1c42fec98d

Accordingly, the $3-$7 each price seems high. Common date coins are typically cheaper by the dozen, so to speak.

Good luck!

Depends. You live in South Africa, and I'd guess that American coins are sold with a premium there. If $3~$7 for a coin will cost less than the price of the coin+shipping on ebay, then I'd say it's a good deal for someone who lives in South Africa.

0.0723 of an ounce of silver for a dime...

0.7736 of an ounce of silver for a Morgan silver dollar.

The Mercury dimes are not as old as the Morgan but it is about 1/10 of the silver content.

I remember you bought a Morgan a while back ASEnut, best to base dime prices off that.

3-5 sounds a lot better than 3-7 thou

This is certainly true for the bullion guys who buy in bulk. However, One would be hard-pressed to buy say a $100 face bag of Mercuries for the same price as a $100 bag of the silver Roosies. I see the Mercuries, a very popular collector coin, constantly bringinging premium prices above melt. The reasons are two-fold: 1) The classic, obsolete design; and 2) the chance, slim as it is, of finding a key or more valuable coin in the mix.

At local auctions, I've seen common Mercuries sell for unrealistic amounts due to these factors. Last year, a group of ten common dates was bid to $6, each! Crazy, but true!
