This quarter looks like a sandwich. It appears that there are three separate layers, two silver, and the middle copper. There is a noticeable lip, and the clad does not cover the reading. There is a partial fill in the ''we'', and it appears that there was not enough pressure to fully imprint the design in areas. What exactly would this be?

acid etched. ate copper faster than nickel alloy.

Agree. Looks like a quarter that I test cleaned in a vinegar solution.

What is acid etched? And would it erode one layer of nickel faster than the other, because the layers are not flush?

Different acids affect the base materials differently. The most common examples we see on the clad coins is the copper layers and copper cents affected.
